(AP) ? President Barack Obama put campaign battleground travel on hold to tour the ravaged New Jersey coast Wednesday, while down-to-the-wire campaigning resumed in swing state Florida that is critical to Republican Mitt Romney's victory plan.

Obama is emphasizing his incumbent's role for a third straight day, skipping voter contact in the handful of states that will decide the election to meet with officials at the Federal Emergency Management Agency's Washington headquarters and visit victims of Hurricane Sandy around Atlantic City. Obama planned to resume campaign travel Thursday with gusto, making stops in Nevada, Colorado and Wisconsin.

The president's actions have forced Romney to walk a careful line and make tough choices. The former Massachusetts governor must show respect for the superstorm's casualties all along the Eastern Seaboard. But Romney can ill afford to waste a minute of campaign time, with the contest virtually deadlocked in several key states and the election six days away.

Florida is among the most closely fought and the biggest prize among the swing states, with 29 electoral votes. Without victory in Florida, Romney will have an uphill and limited path to electoral victory.

Romney has stops scheduled with former Gov. Jeb Bush and Sen. Marco Rubio in some of the most populous areas of the state ? Tampa, Jacksonville and Coral Gables in the Miami area. The Obama campaign dispatched Vice President Joe Biden to play defense in Florida on Wednesday, with stops in the smaller, more conservative markets of Sarasota and Ocala aimed at narrowing the margin where Republicans usually fare well.

GOP running mate Paul Ryan was campaigning across his home state of Wisconsin before planning to take his children trick or treating. Wisconsin is part of the Romney-Ryan campaign's eleventh-hour strategy of trying to put Democratic-leaning states in play and forcing Obama to shift resources to areas he has expected to win.

In tempered remarks, Ryan never explicitly criticized Obama and asked for prayers and donations for storm victims. The move reflected advice from his top aides to eschew partisanship for fear of appearing too shrill and strike a more civil tone in his critique of the president heading into the heart of the crisis. Plus, Romney and Ryan are still making attempts to win over moderate and undecided voters who have little patience for unbridled partisanship.

Ryan argued that Wisconsin was a battleground that will help decide the election and urged supporters to work hard for the next week so they have no regrets. "When we wake up a week from this morning, let's make sure we did everything we could," Ryan said.

After tamping down his partisan tone Tuesday at an Ohio event that chiefly emphasized victims' relief, Romney planned a full-blown return to the trail Wednesday. Sandy largely spared Florida, so Romney calculates he can campaign there without appearing callous.

On Thursday, Romney planned to focus on Virginia with stops in Roanoke, Doswell and Virginia Beach. Friday is all about Ohio, culminating with a guest-filled rally in suburban Cincinnati to kick off the campaign's final four days. Set to join Romney, Ryan and their wives in West Chester, Ohio, are golf legend Jack Nicklaus, former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Texas Gov. Rick Perry and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Romney also planned to get in last-minute voter outreach in tossup New Hampshire, with a big final campaign event Monday night before heading to Boston for Election Day.

Obama's revised schedule also is a political gamble. Rather than use the campaign's final Wednesday to woo voters in tossup states, he will go before cameras with New Jersey's Republican governor, Chris Christie. Christie is one of Romney's most prominent supporters, and a frequent Obama critic. But Christie praised Obama's handling of the storm, a political twist the president's visit is sure to underscore.

Obama also stopped at FEMA headquarters Wednesday. News photographers were allowed to accompany him inside, but not reporters.

While Obama and Romney were moving cautiously, their campaigns are exchanging sharp words in Ohio and expanding their operations into three Democratic-leaning states, a move that will reshape the contest's final six days.

Romney's campaign is running ads in Minnesota and Pennsylvania, and a pro-Romney group is doing the same in Michigan. Obama was leading in all three, but his campaign is taking the threat seriously. It sent former President Bill Clinton to Minnesota on Tuesday and is buying airtime in all three states, although senior Obama adviser David Axelrod flatly said they are safe.

"I will shave off my mustache of 40 years if we lose any of those three states," Axelrod said in an appearance on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

Republican strategists differ on the Romney campaign's thinking. Some think Romney's aides fear losing all-important Ohio, and they hope for a stunning last-minute breakthrough elsewhere to compensate. Others say the GOP camp has so much money ? and so few chances to buy useful airtime in saturated states ? that it can spend millions of dollars on a long-shot without scrimping in a battleground.

"If they didn't have so much money, they wouldn't be able to do something with so little chance of success," said Democratic strategist Tad Devine.

Democratic groups bitterly complained about a TV ad the Romney camp is running in the Toledo and Youngstown areas of Ohio. The ad suggests that Jeep will move its Toledo car-making facility to China, a claim Jeep executives deny.

Democrats called the ad a brazen lie and a sign of desperation. Even some Republicans worried that Romney has gone too far in a state where voters follow the auto industry closely.

The carmakers also objected to the ads, but Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul on Wednesday said the manufacturers don't refute any facts in the ad.

BREAKING: Dallas County OKs health insurance for domestic partners

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins

The gay and straight domestic partners of Dallas County employees will soon be eligible for a $300 monthly subsidy from the county to help pay for health insurance.

The County Commissioners Court voted 3-2 along party lines Tuesday morning to offer the subsidy to employees who have same- or opposite-sex domestic partners who do not have insurance through other means.?The subsidy will be equal to the amount the county contributes to an employee?s health insurance.

County Judge Clay Jenkins, and Commissioners Dr. Elba Garcia and John Wiley Price, who comprise the court?s Democratic majority, voted in favor of offering the domestic partner subsidy. Republican Commissioners Mike Cantrell and Maurine Dickey voted against it.

Jenkins and Garcia, who spearheaded the initiative, had initially hoped to offer domestic partner benefits through the Public Employee Benefits Cooperative, a multi-county partner agency, but other members ? including Denton and Tarrant counties ? would not allow it.

Those who enroll in Dallas County?s subsidy program will have to sign a domestic partner affidavit, and provide two forms of proof that they have lived together for six months, such as a lease agreement or joint bank accounts. Other requirements mandate that partners must be at least 18 and not be married.

The official projected cost is under $100,000 per year ? though based on the experiences of other government entities including Parkland hospital, the actual price tag is likely to be only a fraction of that amount.

Under the plan, Dallas County becomes the third county in Texas to offer DP benefits after Travis County and El Paso County. The city of Dallas has offered domestic partner benefits since 2004.

We Have Class Tomorrow :( | Bwog

According to an email from Columbia?s Emergency Management Operations Team, we (undergrads) have class tomorrow! The reason? ?Our students will only benefit by beginning to reengage in the purposeful work that brings our University community?and our City?together each day.?

The med school, School of Public Health, School of Continuing Education, School of the Arts, UTS, and Teachers College all canceled classes. (Barnard has not announced whether classes are canceled, but it?s likely they?re not.) NYU canceled classes, there?s still no public transit, and NYC public schools and libraries are closed. And yet, we have class. But look on the bright side: in two days, it?ll be Fall Break.

Full statement:

UNIVERSITY STATEMENT REGARDING RESUMPTION OF CLASSES
FOR WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 31, 2012

As our city and region recover from the serious impact of Hurricane Sandy, the University will begin resuming classes tomorrow, Wednesday, October 31, with the following exceptions:

The Mailman School of Public Health on the Medical Center campus will not hold classes;

On the Morningside Campus, the School of Continuing Education and the School of the Arts graduate classes will not be held, but undergraduate classes in the School of the Arts will meet.

We know that transportation within the five boroughs and wider metropolitan area will remain a challenge for several days to come and that there will inevitably be some students, faculty and staff who may have special difficulty reaching our campuses. We want to emphasize that everyone whose families, homes and neighborhoods have been severely affected by the storm have our full support in attending to their needs on the home front in the days ahead.

We are fortunate to have large populations of students, faculty and staff living in, or within close walking distance of, our campus communities, which escaped significant damage from the storm. Our students will only benefit by beginning to reengage in the purposeful work that brings our University community ? and our City?together each day.

Administrative and support staff should report to work on Wednesday. If that presents difficulties, please contact your supervisor. Faculty members and teaching assistants who cannot reach campus tomorrow should try to follow normal procedures to inform their students that a particular class will not be held, as they would do with other instances such as missing class due to illness. Teaching assistants should follow the same protocol in regard to recitation sections or other academic sessions. To be sure, we appreciate that because of flooding and power outages elsewhere, it may sometimes be impossible to alert students of a class cancellation.

We encourage faculty members to be flexible and creative in making provision for students who may themselves not be able to reach campus, such as providing class materials including notes from lectures and discussions. Please do not hesitate to contact your deans and department chairs for more information and guidance, if needed.

We will continue to update the University community about the status of activities and operations depending largely on decision-making by State and City about travel and transit conditions. For example, because of limited staffing, we can expect that some campus services will be reduced this week.

It is also worth note that this coming Monday and Tuesday remain scheduled University holidays.

With patience, understanding and flexibility, the University can move forward with the rest of our City and region in reestablishing our daily lives and work in the days ahead.

Creating More Survivors With Local Cancer Research | NBC 4i

As we near the end of breast cancer awareness month, we are taking a look at some of the progress taking place right in our backyard.

As we near the end of breast cancer awareness month, we are taking a look at some of the progress taking place right in our backyard. From research, to clinical trials, to new therapies, more and more people are surviving because of the work being done at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center ? Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital.

NBC4's Robyn Haines shares one woman's story, as she does her part to make a difference.

High school physical education teacher Jodi Brown is a breast cancer survivor. She was diagnosed in 2009 at just 32-years-old.

She had chemo, radiation, and surgery to get rid of the disease but she wanted to do more. Her treatment all started with Doctor Ramaswamy at The James.??

"This is what motivates me in the whole cancer world, she sat down, grabbed my hand and she goes you have breast cancer and you're going to be a survivor one day and you can help somebody out," said Jodi.

So this year, cancer free and thriving, Jodi created her own 5k to raise money for the Stefanie Spielman fund, $23,000 to help researchers, like her own doctor, create options for future generations.

Right now, Doctor Ramaswamy is working on a possible new therapy for Tamoxifen-resistant breast cancer cells. Tamoxifen is a pill that has long been used to treat cancer that depends on estrogen to grow.

"What is novel about what we have done is a very unique pathway, called hedgehog pathway, cells that are resistant to Tamoxifen, breast cancer cells, this pathway is very highly activated,? said Dr. Ramaswamy.

So they are now pushing toward a clinical trial for an "anti-hedgehog" pill -- a way to stop the cancer cells from becoming resistant to the drug. Researchers are also working on new ways to combat triple negative breast cancer, rare and aggressive, with very few treatment options.

"We are looking at the same hedgehog compound and we've found some very interesting data there as well as far as triple negative as a target,"?said Dr. Ramaswamy.???

They're also looking into PARP inhibitors to treat triple negative, which focuses on DNA repair in the diseased cells.

The doctor goes on to say that the problem with finding a cure for cancer is that a cancer cell is not constant, and never will be.

So every time we get closer, the cell changes and finds a way to get around our treatments.

Experts and survivors say a large problem that needs to be addressed is getting better at prevention, finding out why we get cancer in the first place.

The Mountain View Workspace

The Mountain View WorkspaceWhen you don't have a view, make one. That's what Debbie and Devin did with their home workspace, thanks to a giant graphic poster. White-ish walls can make a room boring, but sometimes all it takes is one point of interest to liven things up. If your workspace is feeling a little dull, target one wall and focus there first. You may not need much to make a big impact.

If you have a workspace of your own to show off, post them to #workspaceshowcase. Make sure any photos you include are at least 640x360. Keeping them to 16:9 helps, too! Include a little text about the stuff you used, how you came up with the design, and any other relevant details. If your clever organization and good design sense catches our eye, you might be the next featured workspace.

Interview with South Florida's Shocolaate.com - South Florida Food ...

spotlight interviews, photo: google images

Shocolaate (Show-ko-latt) is an online gourmet chocolate company based in Tequesta, Florida owned and operated by?mother and daughter team, Diana Pace and Cristina Vives; both of whom are truly passionate about the design, the creativity and the art of chocolate?making. Shocolaate specializes in handmade truffles and?chocolate treats.?Shocolaate, Diana and Cristina embody their product with a very feminine victorian-esque motif, not to say that men wouldn?t purchase?Shocolaate as corporate gifts, because they do but?Shocolaate definitely has a feminine approach and appeal, that makes eating chocolate oh so pretty. This week is a double header interview, with the Spotlight questions answered by both Diana and Cristina. ?This week we go behind the scenes of Shocolaate.com and find out the inner workings of an online gourmet chocolate company. I present this week?s Spotlight Interview with?Diana Pace and Cristina Vives.

Shocolaate, Diana and Cristina

South Florida Food and Wine: For those that don?t know about Shocolaate, tell us a bit about your business.

Diana: We are a small artisan truffle company and growing every day. Decandence in a single bite is what we strive for.

Cristina: Shocolaate is a place where people come to indulge, to ignite their senses, and to enjoy the ultimate truffle experience. At Shocolaate we tempt all of your senses starting with visual. After all as humans we eat with our eyes! Not only does it look good, but it tastes just as good if not better. I believe that the perfect balance to a great product is when it attracts all of your senses.

?

South Florida Food and Wine: What is a typical day like for you as co-owners of Shocolaate?

Diana: I am the creative designer behind the business, I make everything look pretty and we work together on creating new flavors. Social Media and making new contacts also. Truly my job is the visual part of Shocolaate I always thinking of ways to create a beautiful visual of our truffles. Cristy is the truffle magician. ?I am the creative designer. ?We work together and live together and it is a true honor to be working with my beautiful daughter.

Cristina: My mom and I play very different roles. Every morning we have a coffee meeting and talk about what our day is going to be like. We write down weekly goals and talk about what?s already been accomplished for the week. Then it?s down to business. Since we are a two-person team then we both have a lot of duties. We work out of a co-op bake shoppe. This is not our retail space, it?s simply where we do all of our production. If I?m not there rolling out truffles then I?m in a meeting selling our product. If I?m not doing that then I?m preparing for an event or chocolate pairing. In the midst of this chocolate storm I?m always on my social media pages tweeting, uploading photos on our Shocolaate Instagram, Facebooking our latest event and getting the word out any way possible. My mom plays a different role, she is behind the scenes. She?s our in-house accountant, our creative designer, and my biggest fan! She makes everything look beautiful while I make it taste beautiful. When we have a photoshoot for new truffles my mom is the one who makes the tablescapes and designs what the general photo is going to look like. We are a team an we work well together.

?

South Florida Food and Wine: What is the one thing you love the most about your job?

Diana: Working with my darling daughter and seeing little kids faces oogle when they see the chocolate

Cristina: For me it?s when I?m at a show or a chocolate pairing and I see with my own eyes people eating the truffles and for them to be satisfied and keep coming back asking for more. It is what keeps me going and helps me stay motivated. I love when people love what I give them!

?

South Florida Food and Wine: Who is the one person you most would like to share a box of chocolates with? And why?

Diana: At this moment it would be my dad who has recently passed away

Cristina: One of my biggest influencers in the chocolate world is Katrina Markoff. She owns a very successful chain of chocolate boutiques called Vosges. Since I started I?ve always looked up to her and would love to get her input!

?

South Florida Food and Wine: Out of your entire collection which chocolate is your favorite and why?

Diana: Star of India it is spicy and wonderful Cristy is the genius behind that one

Cristina: I love dark chocolate personally and I grew up eating orange slices and grew to love those. So I combined two of my favorite flavors Dark Chocolate and Orange and for a twist I added some guava jam. The result is like 4th of July in your mouth! It?s Dark Chocolate, Orange Zest, a freshly candied orange peel topped with Guava Jam. LOVE LOVE LOVE. I call it the Orange Guava.

?

South Florida Food and Wine: Who?s chocolate was the last you ate, other than your own?

Diana: Ghiadelli Hot Chocolate . Caramel with Salt

Cristina: My aunt just came back from a two week long cruise and on her ventures she always brings me back chocolate from other lands. So the last chocolate I tried was a dark chocolate bar from a company in Seattle called Frans?s Chocolates. It was a brick of dark chocolate filled with almonds and crunchy caramel. Actually very good, I love the crunch in the center.

?

South Florida Food and Wine: What is the most challenging thing about being an entrepreneur?

Diana: It is our own creation and that always presents a challenge! Our truffles are different! Just staying true to what we believe in .

Cristina: It?s HARD work. I encourage everyone to follow their dreams but they should know that dreams are not all sunshine and rainbows. It takes long hours, persistence, openness, and most importantly courage. The thing about Shocolaate is that it is a luxury. Since people don?t necessarily ?need? it then I have to convince them why they absolutely do. That part is easy, with one taste they always come back for more. Since we also sell wholesale to large companies/hotels that?s when it becomes a tad difficult. It?s a little intimidating walking into a boardroom or an office full of chefs in their uniforms. One thing is that I never get discouraged if someone tells me no. Having a tough shell is part of the job. My mom is my biggest cheerleader and as long as I have her by my side then no task will be too difficult.

?

South Florida Food and Wine: It?s your day off, what do you do for fun?

Diana: Social Media!! Ha!! We are always working.?I do love trying creative places to dine at and I love travel! We are always working we live together and are always coming up with creative ideas.

Cristina: Like most entrepreneurs, there is hardly ever a day off. But if we do then we go to Disney to blow off some steam. We are annual passholders and if you ever can?t find me at the bake shop or at home then that?s probably where I am.

?

South Florida Food and Wine: The gourmet specialty products business is not an easy business, what motivates you to be bigger, better, stronger?

Diana: I see how the clients love our truffles. It is a great experience to see others love your creation My daughter inspires me every day; she motivates me

Cristina: I believe that the products I make are comparable to the top brands that everyone knows about. What motivates me is when I hear people tell me over and over that I will be up there one day. My mom and I make a great team and are very marketable, we will continue to work our hardest and make sure that one day Shocolaate will be a brand known all over.

?

South Florida Food and Wine: What is the one piece of advice you would offer entrepreneurs starting out today?

Diana: Work diligently every day in what you believe in, It is your dream and it is up to you to make it a reality

Cristina: A good friend once told me to begin with the end in mind. I would offer that piece of advice to anyone. When you start out know what your goals are. Make sure that your product is something that you yourself would buy in the store or pay top dollar for. Find a good/trustworthy team, be a good leader, always stay connected, participate in as many networking events as possible, and most importantly always have FUN with whatever you are doing and know that in the midst of a storm remember to stop, breathe, and remember that it will pass.

Gearing Up For Growth: Loot.co.za Launches New Website Ahead ...

by Staff Reporter on 29/10/12 at 8:00 am
No comments

In preparation for the very competitive trading period that is the festive season, Loot.co.za has launched a new website ? the first phase of ongoing site enhancements that will fundamentally change the site?s usability and the customer experience. These changes will complement Loot.co.za?s renowned focus on delivering a ?wow? customer service experience.

With the number of online shoppers rapidly increasing each year ? in 2011 South Africa?s online retail revenue generated was an estimated R2.6 billion, more than ten times what it was a decade earlier ? it is clear that there is huge potential for online retailers with the vision to drive these trends.

?The growth we have seen has come during a period when there has been a relatively low proportion of internet users with the propensity to shop online,? says Arthur Goldstuck, Managing Director of World Wide Worx, which continually researches online retail. ?From next year we expect an acceleration in the number of shoppers, but retailers who want to take advantage of this shift cannot rely on the old ways of conducting business online. This is the year of reinvention for those who want to be leading the race from next year.?

Online spending trends show that a large proportion of that spend occurs over the festive season. Last year, 22% of Loot.co.za?s total revenue was generated over the festive season, and given the steady rise in online spending in South Africa in recent years, it is predicted that 2012 will be no different.

Loot.co.za?s Chief Executive Officer, Gary Hadfield, predicts that the most revenue will come from books, DVDs, electronics, toys and games. The highest growth areas are likely to be electronics, computers, toys and baby. Hadfield is keeping a close eye on online shopping trends as Christmas approaches and predicts that more and more people will opt for a safe, easy online shopping experience.

As the former CEO of Kalahari.com, Hadfield is well-versed in ecommerce statistics and the manner in which digital participation has increased exponentially over the past decade. The new website development is the tip of the iceberg in terms of the broader picture of the business development strategy which he is driving.

Established in 2003, Loot.co.za traditionally has its roots in books, and over the years has grown to be he one of the top two South African online booksellers. Today, the range of product offerings on the site is vast and includes a wide range of categories, including DVDs, music, games, electronics, toys and baby products. The company?s consistent and impressive growth has positioned them as one of the largest business-to-consumer general merchandise and media product revenue generators in the country.

Hadfield says: ?The new website design goes a long way towards enabling this expansion for Loot.co.za and will also support the introduction of new lifestyle categories that will live more comfortably within the modern design where the merchandise takes centre stage.?

?The challenge was to ensure that the site usability changes and the new look and feel would enhance our existing loyal customers? shopping experience, but also have a positive impact in terms of influencing key new visitor metrics,? he adds. ?This is one of many positive developments that will come into play post successfully getting new investors on board.?

Hadfield?s thoughts echo a report issued by World Wide Worx in 2012 entitled ?Growth of the Internet Economy? that points to the need for increased usability of sites and interaction of brands with potential online customers.

Hadfield emphasises the importance of the timing of the new site launch, saying: ?It was essential to launch the new site pre-festive season to support a very competitive trading period. We are also currently busy with a continuous cycle of range expansion to enhance our customers? Christmas shopping experience.?

Visit www.loot.co.za and explore the new website while compiling a Christmas wish list.

Sandy injects uncertainty into presidential campaign

By Michael O'Brien, NBC News

?

An impending hurricane injected a new degree of uncertainty into the 2012 presidential campaign, impacting candidates' schedules and early voting opportunities just nine days before Election Day.

President Barack Obama called the storm?"serious and big" following a briefing at the headquarters of the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA), warning residents in the storm's path "to take this very seriously."

The president also canceled campaign trips to Virginia and Colorado scheduled for early this week, the last full week of campaigning this election, in order to monitor Hurricane Sandy.?The storm's impending landfall was poised to add a new variable to a presidential contest that has tightened considerably in its closing days, along with scores of downballot races up and down the East Coast.

Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney canceled planned stops in Virginia ??one of the most hotly-contested battleground states this fall ??on Sunday and headed to Ohio instead.?

Obama spent Sunday in Washington, where he traveled to FEMA headquarters following church services early this afternoon. The administration?authorized several emergency declarations for states sitting in Sandy's path, and Obama convened a conference call with administration officials and governors in the storm's path to receive an update on preparations.

The storm put some of Obama's campaigning on hold, as he?canceled a northern Virginia event for that afternoon, along with an event in Colorado Springs on Tuesday. Obama was still set, though,?to travel to Youngtown, Ohio on Monday morning. The president appears ? for now ? intent upon returning to the campaign trail on Tuesday evening in Green Bay, Wis. His campaign also?advised on Sunday afternoon that two stops on Wednesday in Ohio would go forward.

The storm might have rearranged Romney's own campaign itinerary, though it's unclear whether the GOP presidential hopeful will be able to return to Virginia soon. Romney didn't address the storm in his remarks in Celine, Ohio, but his running mate, Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, urged voters in the Buckeye State to keep East Coasters in their thoughts and prayers.

Nonetheless, the hurricane could prove to be the proverbial "October Surprise" of this campaign as it upended other elements of the election well before it had even made landfall.

Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley (D) canceled early voting in his state for Monday, a decision other east coast governors could mirror. That could have an especially pronounced impact on a state like Virginia, a battleground state in the presidential election and home to a competitive Senate race.

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, a Republican, said on Sunday's TODAY show that he didn't worry about power outages or other complications from the storm diminishing voting in the state.

"It's going to be, probably, seven days from the time the storm passes 'til Election Day," he said. "We've already taken precautions to move up polling places to a higher spot for restoration. The power companies are well aware of that. So I don't think it's going to interfere with voting."

But Democrats are counting on robust turnout ? both through early voting and on Nov. 6 ??to propel Obama to a second term. While Sandy's projected path is uncertain, its rain and wind could discourage voters in the key swing state of Ohio from voting early, a practice employed by both campaigns to bank votes ahead of Election Day.

"Obviously we want unfettered access to the polls, because we believe that the more people come out, the better we?re going to do,? David Axelrod, a senior adviser to Obama's re-election campaign, said Sunday on CNN. ?And so, to the extent that it makes it harder, that?s a source of concern.?

The president himself downplayed worries about the storm's impact on voting.?

"We don't anticipate that at this point but we're obviously going to have to take a look," he said in Washington following his FEMA briefing.

How You Can Market Your Business Online Successfully | SEO ...

One of the most profitable occupations is Internet marketing. However, it must be done properly. The business opportunities that exist online are practically endless, but all have a common requirement of needing personal time invested. Since there are only so many hours in the day, the wise use of them is important. This article will give you a lot of advice on how to use your time in the best way when marketing your business.

Your marketing efforts can benefit from setting up a database for customer relationship management. It can help you see past successes and guide you in the ways that your business and marketing strategies should be going. Get in touch with your best customers; send them more shopping suggestions, coupons, limited offers and free samples.

Let customers be able to write ratings on your products and enable them the option to explain why these ratings were chosen. Having this sort of feedback on your page can not only give you ideas on how to improve your product or service, but also gives customers an overview of what they can expect from the product.

You need to figure what content would attract your target market to your site. Once you know who you are targeting, it should be easy for you to find the content that will entice them to visit your site over and over again.

Although it is good to have many social network profiles, make sure to give each one sufficient attention. A profile which is stagnant is perceived as spam.

Place keywords in your internal links. Once you get a visitor to your site, keeping them there becomes vital. If you use links to direct them to previous posts or other relevant information elsewhere on the site, you can keep them around much longer. Links can not only generate traffic, but can keep people interested in your products and services.

You should back up every claim you make about your niche. Be believable in your claims and try to demonstrate the benefits of what you are promoting with a video, so that customers can see for themselves. Make a video of yourself demonstrating your products or performing the services you advertise to convince your audience.

Provide a money back guarantee as part and parcel of any Internet marketing strategy that you use. Your customers will feel more confident about doing business with you when you offer such a guarantee. Customers will be more likely to trust you if you take all the risk out of their purchases.

As shown, Internet marketing should not overreach your available time. Strategize your approach, use your time efficiently and you will see success!

Kristen Stewart Talks On-Screen Love Triangle During 'Twilight' Press Tour

Life imitated art for Kristen Stewart, and now the "Twilight" actress is speaking out about love triangles.

While Stewart discusses the on-screen love triangle that plays out in the "Twilight Saga," she herself has personal experience with such trials of the heart.

Stewart's now-infamous real-life love triangle with boyfriend Robert Pattinson and married "Snow White and the Huntsman" director Rupert Sanders might have given her some insight into her character Bella Swan's love struggles. On screen, Bella feels for both vampire Edward Cullen (Pattinson) and werewolf Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner).

The 22-year-old actress discussed the topic of love triangles while promoting "Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2" in Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday.

"There were times when it was difficult to agree with every decision she [Bella] made, but at the same time it was always coming from such an honest place in her heart," Stewart said. Later adding, "As a woman, I think that it's really important not to discredit feeling. You say, 'I don't know why I feel it, but I do. And I'm gonna figure out why pretty soon.'"

"The whole love triangle thing... She needs Jacob in her life. He needs her in the same way," Stewart said. "It's not like an unbalanced thing. I think that they really offer each other so much. If you can get past conventions, and get past what everyone else is thinking, and have what you want, then you're gonna be a much happier person."

Her real-life love triangle unfolded in the public eye when the actress issued an apology to her "Twilight" boyfriend for her fling with Sanders via People magazine in July.

Stewart and Pattinson have reportedly reconciled privately and have embarked on separate "Breaking Dawn Part 2" promotional tours. While she was in Japan, 26-year-old Pattinson headed to Australia, where he talked about the "pretty ridiculous" sex scene in "Breaking Dawn Part 2."

BreakingDawnMovie.org reports that U.S. promo dates are set to begin on Oct. 28 and continue through Nov. 12, when the cast joins for the world premiere in Los Angeles. The final "Twilight" installment will hit theaters on Nov. 16.

Check out Kristen Stewart on the "Twilight" press tour in Japan below. She discusses Bella's love triangle around the 8:05 mark.

'Good Day To Die Hard' Trailer Actually Kinda Looks Like 'Die Hard'

There are a few problems with "A Good Day to Die Hard." The issues with the name go without saying, but the first trailer gave us the feeling that the idiocy of "Live Free or Die Hard" would creep its way into a fifth installment of the series. It was all shooting, explosions, and Jai [...]

Court gives "Millennium Bomber" tougher 37-year sentence

SEATTLE (Reuters) - "Millennium bomber" Ahmed Ressam, whose original 22-year prison term was deemed too lenient by an appeals court, was re-sentenced to 37 years behind bars on Wednesday for a foiled New Year's Eve 1999 plot to set off explosives at Los Angeles International Airport.

Federal prosecutors who appealed the original punishment had asked the Seattle-based district judge presiding over the case to impose a new sentence that would require Ressam, an Algerian national, to spend the rest of his life in prison.

They argued Ressam deserved a much harsher penalty because he had reneged on an agreement to assist in the prosecution of other suspected militants and later recanted all his testimony and other statements to authorities.

By doing so Ressam, 45, demonstrated he would remain a threat to society once released from prison, prosecutors said.

But District Judge John Coughenour ruled that while a stiffer sentence was called for, a life term was not warranted under the circumstances.

"This case provokes our greatest fears ... but fear is a foul ingredient for sentencing calculations," the judge said before adjusting Ressam's sentence to 37 years in prison plus five years of supervised release.

Ressam, wearing a beige prison uniform, sat quietly in court with his arms folded during most of the proceedings. As the sentence was pronounced, he cupped his chin in his hand, his forefinger extended across his lips. He did not address the court, except to say, "Yes, your honor," when the judge asked if he understood.

Ressam's lawyers had urged a sentence of 30 to 34 years, arguing this was close to the 35-year term prosecutors previously recommended and on par with the statutory maximum penalty carried by the core offenses for which Ressam was convicted - an act of terrorism through the use of explosives.

They further argued that Ressam should still get credit for valuable information he did provide to authorities, including testimony against a convicted co-conspirator.

Ressam also identified Zacarias Moussaoui, a convicted September 11 conspirator, as an individual he met at a militant training camp in Afghanistan, and gave information leading to the arrest of al Qaeda operative Abu Zubaydah, according to the defense.

'JUDGE ME AS YOU WISH'

In a statement filed in court last week, Ressam repeated his retraction of all previous statements, saying a deal to cooperate was made under duress.

He also insisted he was "against killing innocent people of any gender, color or religion," adding, "I apologize for my action." He concluded by saying, "You can judge me as you wish, I will not object to any of your sentences."

Defense lawyers have suggested that severe mental stress Ressam suffered from seven-plus years in solitary confinement at the "Supermax" federal prison in Florence, Colorado, may have influenced his decision to recant.

Ressam was arrested in December 1999 as he attempted to cross into the United States from British Columbia and aroused the suspicion of a U.S. customs inspector at a ferry landing in Port Angeles, Washington.

After he tried to run away, the trunk of his rental car was found packed with explosives capable of producing a blast 40 times greater than that of a typical car bomb, authorities said.

A jury convicted him in April 2001 of nine felony counts for his role in a plot to set off the explosives at Los Angeles International Airport on December 31, 1999.

He was originally sentenced in 2005, and again in 2008, to 22 years in prison plus five years of supervised release.

Prosecutors, angry that Ressam had by then ceased cooperating, appealed the penalty as falling far short of the prison term called for under U.S. sentencing guidelines.

A divided 11-judge panel of the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals agreed in March, and by a 7-4 vote ordered the case sent back to Coughenour for re-sentencing.

Ressam is likely to be about 63 years old by the time he is released from federal prison under the new sentence, accounting for time already served, defense lawyer Thomas Hillier said.

Defense lawyers said in their pre-sentencing memorandum that Ressam faces deportation back to Algeria and likely further imprisonment there once released from U.S. custody. They also said he would most certainly be a marked man, viewed by groups like al Qaeda as a traitor for his initial cooperation with U.S. authorities.

Attorney Jenny Durkan told reporters after re-sentencing that she would review the judge's opinion in full before deciding whether to appeal the latest prison term.

But she called the additional time Ressam received "a significant increase," and said, "Today is a victory for the rule of law and our country's system of justice."

Apparently there's now a disease that gives everyday people the features of an anime character. Go figure.

This is actually a novel idea, I'll think I'll get working on a character asap.

I'm a dreamcatcher but only nightmares I caught.
